About the opportunity

Our client is a growing U.S. early childhood education organization with approximately 600 employees across multiple locations in Utah, Nevada, Arizona, and New Mexico.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Payroll Specialist to serve as the company’s primary payroll processor. This is a hands-on individual-contributor role for someone who can manage high-volume, multi-state U.S. payroll accurately, meet firm deadlines, and independently follow through on payroll corrections and employee requests.

Most employees are hourly, so the role requires close review of timekeeping data, variable payroll amounts, overtime, missing punches, deductions, and other cycle-to-cycle changes.

What you’ll do

• Prepare and process weekly and biweekly U.S. payroll accurately and on schedule
• Review timecards for missing punches, duplicate entries, overtime issues, unusual variances, and other discrepancies
• Coordinate with managers to resolve timekeeping issues before payroll deadlines
• Process approved new hires, terminations, compensation changes, bonuses, reimbursements, deductions, garnishments, tax-withholding changes, and direct-deposit updates
• Review payroll reports, reconcile totals, and investigate discrepancies
• Process payroll corrections, manual checks, and off-cycle payments
• Respond professionally to employee and manager questions regarding pay, deductions, PTO, pay statements, and corrections
• Maintain complete payroll records, documentation, and audit trails
• Prepare recurring payroll reports and support quarter-end, year-end, W-2, audit, and reconciliation activities
• Compile payroll and employment information requested by state agencies and other regulatory bodies
• Coordinate closely with U.S.-based leadership, HR, Finance, and location managers
• Support effective use of iSolved, including employee self-service and payroll-reporting features

What we’re looking for

• At least four years of hands-on U.S. payroll-processing experience
• Demonstrated ownership of full-cycle payroll, not solely payroll data entry or administrative support
• Multi-state payroll experience
• Experience processing payroll for several hundred employees
• Strong experience with hourly employees, timekeeping data, overtime, and variable payroll amounts
• Working knowledge of U.S. payroll taxes, deductions, garnishments, and year-end requirements
• Strong payroll reconciliation and discrepancy-resolution skills
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills
• Excellent written and spoken English
• Ability to work independently while communicating proactively with U.S.-based stakeholders
• Exceptional dependability, organization, attention to detail, and follow-through
• Ability to protect confidential employee and payroll information
• Reliable internet, dependable power, and a professional remote workspace
• Availability for substantial overlap with Mountain Time business hours and payroll deadlines

Strongly preferred

• Direct experience processing payroll in iSolved
• Experience with iSolved reporting, employee self-service, PTO tracking, or payroll-tax functions
• Hands-on payroll-tax filing experience
• Experience supporting a multi-location, predominantly hourly workforce
• Experience responding to payroll, employment, or regulatory information requests

This role is ideal for someone who has already managed complex U.S. payroll with limited supervision and takes pride in making sure no detail or employee request falls through the cracks.
