Who We Are

Streets Are For Everyone (also known as “SAFE”) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded in January 2014. SAFE aims to improve the quality of life for pedestrians, bicyclists and drivers alike by reducing traffic-caused fatalities to zero. SAFE addresses the problem in a holistic fashion through direct education, broad awareness campaigns, partnerships, community outreach, policy and legislation, support for those impacted and other proven strategies.

Among the most active and successful non-profit organizations in Los Angeles County, SAFE has inspired thousands of Californians to come together and Finish the Rides that are cut short by traffic violence, helped connect hundreds of survivors of traffic collisions with support and recovery services, passed numerous pieces of legislation to change the landscape of traffic violence in California, and given a platform to young people to use their unique voice and creative flair to educate others about the movement for safer streets. Our innovative and successful programming has resulted in SAFE being honored with the Alex Baum Award from the LA County Bicycle Coalition, the Deborah Murphy Award for Excellence in Advocacy from Streetsblog LA as well as multiple certificates, commendations, and recognition from US Congress Members, CA State Assembly Members and LA City Councilmen.

The Position We are Hiring For

We are seeking a passionate and organized remote staff member to manage and grow our Streets, Art, SAFE high school program.

In summary, Streets, Art, SAFE is a hands-on competition for high school students interested in graphic design or film-making, mentored by Hollywood filmmakers or industry graphic designers.

There are 2 competitions students can enter:

1) students are invited to create a 30 second film or

2) students can design a poster about traffic safety issues.

Experienced volunteer graphic designers or filmmakers -- directors, producers, cinematographers, etc. -- help to mentor the students and improve their skills.

Winning teams receive awards and cash prizes and their pieces played on TV. There is also a cash grant to the winning school’s Art Department.

We offer free resources to help students further. These resources are optional, and can be used at the teacher’s discretion.

The coordinator will be responsible for all aspects of program development, management, and operations - from recruitment to final presentations -working remotely with other SAFE staff, teachers, mentors, and community partners to ensure the program's success.
