Run

For being one of the largest security companies around this place sure does blow. Treat employees poorly. Benefits are not good and the pay is not good. Good luck trying to advance. District manager she puts all her favorites in upper management. I would stay far away from this place. No flexibility in this company. 4 thumbs down run.

Most enjoyable part of the job

Is when you get to go home. Not bad working for this company. Pay should be more. Im just glad i have a good management team with the support. One thing i do disagree with is the facial hair. Some upper management have facial hair and well not let grauds grow a mustache and goatee. Another thing is your only Issued 2 magazines if you are armed which should be 3.

Not one of the better choices.

Company requirements at last minute take priority (in their eyes) so you threatened with your job if your flexibility isn't what they expect. Compensation for required experience and skills as an Armed Officer is way below fair when you consider that they NEED your experience and skills. Training program didn't teach me anything that I didn't already know from previous experience and job skills. Area management had no clue how Security really works and it was apparent that they had never been on a post or in uniform before. Contract/site leads/supervisors look out for themselves first when scheduling or assigning additional responsibilities to officers on site. Only positive side was the relationships that could be developed with some of the clients that were far better than with own employer.

standard security company with outdoor duty

I was expected to stand in direct sunlight, in a desert environment, with black hat, pants, boots, duty belt and full Kevlar vest for 10+ hours a day, 50 hours a week. I also had to stand outdoors during the winter in snow, rain, and freezing temperatures during the winter. I was chastised for using the restroom, which i believe is illegal. The salary of $13.50 hourly to stand outside a high value target like a major bank with a bullet proof vest is extremely under paid and under valued.

Company that we are assigned too which is Arrow Elecronics is great

The job it self can be very boring but at times very Demanding also my coworkers are amazing. The workers very well work at are great it dies take just the right personality to intervene with all the faces and ways of different people

Decent Place to Start

G4S is a site that takes a very strict approach with hiring and a thorough approach to training. Its sites vary in its duties, yet remains standard in its expectations.

Absolutely horrible reno branch

Absolutely horrible place to get hired into. The reno branch is by far the worst management in history. I had to get a hold of them and for about 5-6 days couldn't get a hold of anyone at the office after trying again and again different hours of the day and 5-6 days in a row. They will promise you the hours you request hire you on then give you something completely different and ignore you, or cop attitude when you bring it up. They can't even keep employees because of their management, always switching stuff, changing schedules without consulting the people at your post first and do NOT keep their end of the bargan....abaolute trash

Its not a company you want to stay with

Job security is scary due to it all being contracted. When someone calls in u had to work double shift and sometimes even 16 hours because coworkers didnt last long. Each site is different and you pray you get a good one or else your at the mercy of the company. Bathroom policies are harsh. No breaks at all unless your site has a slow patch in the day. Management is full of empty promises and favoritism. This job is a no nonsense job, you can not speak to anyone at the site outside of work...big no no...your required to stand all day for little pay and act as if your military. Its a great learning experience and great for starting out in the career but I don't recommend sticking around as you have no growth or raises unless you transfer to another site if your qualified or if they have anything available. You end up on unemployment if your site loses their contract and there is no other jobs available. There are no bonuses for officers only management gets them.

Relaxed place to work

G4S is a good place to work, however, anytime you work as a contract entity there are problems, and at the account I worked at we being phased out, so I am sure you can understand the problems when your contract wants to phase you out.

Relaxed amd stress free

Relaxed and easy work. No room for advancement without previous military or police expirience or a 4 year degree. Good first job for people out of high school or retirees looking for something easy to do

Go to Another Outfit

The other security officers were really good guys. But the way they handled the contracts, and how they cared about whether or not you actually got your 2 days off a week, was horrible. Why get paid $11 to $13.30 a hour, when other places will start you at $16 for the same work.

Very good place to work

A good and exciting place to work. You get to learn how to interact professionally with different people in the society, with different background and ideologies. I learned to adjust with different settings and environment. I learned how to trust and coordinate with my partner and co-workers. Hardest part of the job is maintaining focus in sometimes monotonous environment. The most enjoyable part of the job was when the shift is over and you had successfully maintained client's service expectations while promoting friendly, non hostile and safe environment to everybody, when all customers come in and leave with a smile or at ease.

Poor maangement, lousy work hours, poor scheduling by operations manager

This is not a good company to work for as the management treats you poorly, does not answer their phone or return calls, no job security, heaven help you if you dare to cross management and actually speak up for yourself in regards to the way you are treated, scheduling is a joke better plan on working 12 hour shifts most of the time due to the operations manager lack of responsible scheduling since she has to have her hands in everything so she can pull officers to work other accounts such as the bank because she is short staffed and the management is a joke you cannot speak up to your immediate supervisor because they are afraid of the operations manager and what she will do in retaliation. Co workers do not pull their fair share . I had high hopes and expected more from this company and when I dared to cross the operations manager I was retaliated against . I worked with some great individuals and some not so great individuals and the culture surrounding G4S is one of do not make waves because you will get retaliated against by not only the local management but corporate management as well. Everything I have said is true and I would not recommend this company to anyone especially if you are female.

CPO Standards in Reno, NV

G4S has 3 types of Security Officers (S.O). Lowest is the Traditional S.O.(TSO) and Unarmed. Then BPO which is a Bank Protection Officer (BPO) and Armed. And finally Custom Protection Officer (CPO), which is the premier S.O. of G4S and is Armed. Here in Reno the standards for hiring CPO has gone down. Currently you have a Female CPO working Armed at the Main Bus Station Terminal here in Reno. She does not meet the standards of G4S CPO qualifications. She is Armed and never carried a Gun before this job. She was Fired from her last Job as a Court Security Officer (Unarmed) here in Reno. Her background includes a short time as a Casino Guard and TSA (Unarmed) at the Airport. The CPO is suppose to have a minimum of at least 3 years Armed Police experience. There is other exceptions as Career military or Special Forces military training. She does not meet any of these requirements. Heaven help she gets into a altercation and does not know how to protect herself or the public here in Reno. I personally left after 4 months due to working with Un Qualified S.O.'s and felt a Safety issue to myself and the Public. And found a Job with DHS as a Supervisor. Where standards to carry a weapon were stringent.
